Getting Started
THINK DIVING MAY NOT BE FOR YOU - HAVE A READ........

Our Club is a Branch of the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) and as such, we don't 'charge' for a dive qualification. Unlike other dive institutions which are businesses, we're run as an amateur association so other than paying club membership fees, all your training comes free. In case you equate amateur with less quality, let me assure you of a few facts:

  • BSAC is the largest diving club in the world - approx 50,000 members with branches or schools in 1500 places around the world
  • Safety is paramount to our training which is carried out at whatever speed you want to progress - unlike learning to dive on holiday say, there's no pressure to get it done in the time span that you've paid for
  • Also, as we're not a business, there's no pressure on us to pass you quickly so we can make more money out of you - we'll qualify you when we know you'll be safe!
  • BSAC qualifications are recognised throughout the world - in fact, our members' experience shows that in most countries, they are treated with more respect than some other qualifications because our standards and safety records are exemplary
At our Branch we have approx 50 members of all ages, sexes, creeds and backgrounds with an active dive programme and a reasonably healthy social calendar.

How we would normally go about introducing someone to diving is to arrange a 'try-dive' at the pool so you can get a feel for whether it is something you fancy doing or not. These can be on most Friday's at Gloucester and run along the following lines:
  • Arrive at Gloucester Pool (party room) at approx. 8.10
  • Training Officer or Treasurer will take you through some paperwork and explain how the Branch operates etc
  • 8.30 a nationally qualified instructor (we have 7 within our Branch) will give a briefing on the dive and the basics of your kit
  • 8.50 - get changed (if female, one of our lady members will look after you for that bit!)
  • 9.00 - into the water - again this will be with your instructor on a 1-1 basis. The dive time in the water is yours - we're here to make sure you enjoy it safely. (Obviously we've got some in water skills we can take through after a while if you get bored with just swimming around).
  • 9.55 - exit the water and hose the kit down in the showers
  • 10.00 onwards - get changed and adjourn to the Sports Bar for after dive drinks (Free membership of the Sports Bar and it's facilities comes with Branch Membership)
For this session, there is a charge of £10.00 which covers wear and tear of all the kit and air for the night. (For full range of  membership benefits and fees see separate link).

I don't really want to go on and on in writing so come on, get in touch and give it a go. Have a look at what we're all about. All we need to arrange things are: what night you want to come, your height & weight and shoe size. (With that, we'll make sure all the right sized gear is available for you).

I really hope you'll take up the offer and visit us soon.

WELL? STILL THINK DIVING ISN'T FOR YOU??? (Not so sure now are you!)
