| How Do I Start ? | |
![]() |
The best way to start is to pay us a visit at
Gloucester Park Swimming Pool Basildon Town Centre
on any
Friday
night
at about 8.15pm
and speak to one of the training officers, committee member or any
club member. This will not only give you a chance to find out more
about the club and answer all your questions but also give you a
chance to meet other members both old and new in a friendly, social
atmosphere.
If you are interested we can then arrange a session for a 'TRY-DIVE' which will carried out in the pool with a qualified Instructor. You just bring yourself, a swimming costume and towel (we also recommend a 'T' Shirt) and we will supply the rest. There is a small charge of £10 for the 'Try-Dive'.

How much does it Cost?
We get many enquiries by phone and email, often asking how much our diving courses are. Basildon Sub-Aqua Club is not a business, it's a real members club. We do not charge for training. Members of the branch, that are also qualified BSAC instructors, provide their services free to other members. We do have club fees however, just like any other club. We have to pay for a number of things, which include; Pool Hire, new equipment and maintenance of existing kit.
We feel our membership fees are pretty reasonable. A new divers first years membership is more expensive than that of an established member, because it includes training manuals, a log book and a set of dive tables. It also has a component that contributes toward the servicing cost and eventual replacement of the kit they are loaned for their first six months. This is a SCUBA set (BC, Cylinder and regulator set), which is quite expensive stuff!
Membership gives access to the pool for SCUBA practice or simply swimming, EVERY Friday evening between 9:00 & 10:00 pm, throughout the year (except when the pool is closed for maintenance and on bank holidays). There are no additional subs to pay.
Divers will also incur travel expense, accommodation costs, entry fees to certain dive sites and hire costs for any additional equipment they decide to hire rather than buy, such as a wet suit or dry suit. They also need to ensure that they have enough air in the cylinder for each training session. There are several local dive shops that can pump cylinders.
We have a common membership renewal date for all members. Our membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March. The table below shows membership costs for a full year and the reducing costs for people that join partway through the membership year.

| What
we don't do
Unfortunately we are unable to accept children into the club unless they are 14 and over AND a parent or legally responsible adult is also a member and will be present at all times. to supervise them. We do not sell courses. We train our members under the BSAC Diver Training Programme. We cannot guarantee that any diver will complete a specific certification level within particular time limits. There are too many variables to take into account. We will of course do the best we can to help any member achieve a goal. We don't hold people back. We apply the BSAC Diver Training Programme as it is laid down. If you do the work, it WILL be signed off. We won't rush your training or try to push you beyond your comfort zone. We will work with you to build on each training objective and achievement toward you becoming a certified diver.
